Politicians don't do the math

The sad fact is that politicians seem to have no understanding of simple arithmetic.

To run a business you need to know more than just simple arithmetic, but if you don't know arithmetic you can't be successful in running a business, but you can still be an Elected Official working in the high level positions of the Government.

  • It ls like trying to write a book, without knowing how to read.

The politicians over the last century has shown a total ignorance in their budgets and programs. They are color blind to the simple concept of RED Ink. They ignore any numerals past the first six to the left of the decimal point.

Many political candidates even run their election campaign funds into the red, and then win or lose the election they walk away without balancing the funds. Then when they are elected they seem to do the same thing with the money from the taxpayers.

Social Security is an Example of a Government Run Business ...

Hub Point:

  • Government cannot run businesses as they have failed miserably trying to do so, and Social Security is just one example.
  • Social Security begot Medicare and today the government has spent 75 years milking the Social Security piggy bank.
  • Now that the SS business along with Medicare is drawing super dark red ink, the Congress and the President are declaring it a failure caused by the people that have paid into the system their entire life. Now that they are retiring they are the bad guys, and they should be punished according to the government.

Social Security is labeled as an Entitlement Program but it is really a TAX with a promise.

  • The promise was a retirement would be given from paying this lifelong TAX.
  • The TAX remains but the promise looks shaky as the Social Security Fund is going bankrupt..

The business of the government is to raise revenue from the people it is supposed to serve. So the primary method of generating revenue is TAXATION. The straight forward process of taxation is almost foolproof, yet the government still has problems with it.

The many problems with government business appear when government thinks it can run like a private sector business.

  • It does most of this type of business indirectly by regulating industry.
  • It also does it using Entitlement Programs such as Social Security, Medicare and others.

ObamaCare will be a tremendous attempt by the government of running the healthcare industry.

  • They have been running Medicare since 1965 and it works.
  • But the real question is how well is it working?

Social Security

No one cares about Social Security yet most of us are forced to contribute into it. Social Security benefits make excellent stakes for penny ante poker games.

  • This is the lowest scoring and least...If you make a wage, then you pay the SS, Medicare Entitlement Tax.
  • You never stop paying this tax as long as you earn a wage.
  • When you retire and earn a wage, you not only pay the SS, Medicare Tax, but you may lose money from your retirement benefit as well.

Social Security is not an accomplishment;

  • it is an FDR Legacy and a symbol of bad government...
  • If Social Security is in trouble, then how can the government afford their workers private pensions and health benefits? Congress couldn't make a...

Social Security an Example of a Government Run Business...

The point of this hub is to present the argument that government run businesses have failed miserably, and Social Security is just one example. Social Security is labeled as an Entitlement Program but...

Brainchild of President Franklin Delano Roosevelt FDR is...SS

I am not loyal to any political party, so I am not out to get any particular party. I look at the facts, and my opinion is based on them. In this hub, the Democrats are highlighted because they were the party that created the entitlements (TAX)....

The System of FDR social bondage

has the Social Security System Tied You Up From Getting a Real Retirement?

  • YOU HAVE TO UNDERSTAND THAT SOCIAL SECURITY IS A TAX, FDR AND HIS DEMOCRATS IN CONGRESS NEVER SAW IT MORE THAN LIP SERVICE AND A.MEANS OF GETTING REVENUE DURING THE DEPRESSION...

Social Security in Trouble

Most of us are forced to contribute to Social Security, but apparently no one careS about it. Congress is not worried about Government; they are worried about Social Security. Congress refused to give Cost...

The Congress and the Federal Government have been running this piggy bank business since 1935.

They never prepared for the time when the SOCIAL SECURITY TAX wouldn't cover the benefits to the retirees. They used the SS Tax as a spend all revenue, and they were not concerned about using it to build a nest egg to fund distant future payout to the retirees.

I guess that they figured that at 65 year old, the retirees wouldn't either live to that age, or live much longer after that age. So they didn't factor in the expense outweighing the revenue. Over the years they only made increases to the SS and Medicare Payroll Taxes. When you also factor that the employer matches the employees SS Tax, that would be in recent times fifteen percent of the wage.

Also consider that many people work forty or more years paying these SS Taxes before they can receive full benefits. So how is it that the government has bankrupt the SS fund. The main reason is that the government cannot run a business. They couldn't even successfully run a bordello in Nevada. How sad is that for people that have trillion dollar budgets.

So Now in 2012, the latest Congress and President are looking at ways of getting out of the Entitlement called Social Security.

The Social Security Tax Revenue is decreasing as the Social Security Benefits are increasing. The tide is turned and the USS Social Security is taking in water. So much water that it is sinking.

Remember that since 1937 none of the congresses, or presidents did anything to prevent the sinking of the USS Social Security.

In fact, in 1965 that Congress and President tacked on the USS Medicare to the Social Security Program. It had its own TAX and its own system, but today it is also sinking. Medicare has never been run properly, and it has always been tapped illegally through fraud and poor procedure.

In addition, some genius also made people think that Medicine was not part of their coverage. In the case of medicare, only certain drugs were covered. But even in private health insurance, prescriptions were not covered or not covered well. Today we have very expensive prescription drugs that are not covered by healthcare insurance.

How did they dupe the public into believing the health insurance shouldn't directly include prescriptions. Prescriptions are the only reason we go to a doctor. I don't have a figure, but from my personal experience and those of people that I know, the percentage of not receiving or renewing a prescription from an office visit is really low.

Does anybody think that the government has run Social Security, Medicare or any business properly and successfully?

Government Workforce

The worst of all government employees are the legislative branch and their Congresses.

These politicians just raise their salaries on their own initiative, even in the worst of economies.

Shouldn't the people vote on how big and expensive their government be or want to support with their taxes?

The answer should be YES, but the voters just don't seem to focus outside their political party hypnotic state. Monkeys would be better apt to vote in a competent banana republic than as evidenced by the politicians that were voted into office over the last five decades or more.

Could I be talking about you, well not unless you voted for the current lot of politicians that are running the debt of the country into the trillions.

The founding fathers and the constitution they created, didn't provide for the economic security for the government workers, or an overinflated size of the governments we have across the country today?

The answer is nowhere,

This explosion of the government workforce developed when the Democratic and Republican parties were created, and like a snowball going downhill they increased the size of the government. Like the snowball, the government only grows bigger, and it gets bigger faster as it goes further down the hill.

Out of all of the millions of unemployed people in this country today, how many of them are government employees?

I am not blaming government workers for taking advantage of a sweet job opportunity.

My focus is on the boobacrats that don't understand or refuse to be governed by arithmetic. These boobs can't recognize red ink is bad in a budget , and really bad for the country.

They even increase their own salaries, while not allowing the same for the people on Social Security. Shame on the AARP seniors for once again putting them or keeping them in office, so they could continue to stab you in the back

They also don't know or don't care that they have only used one mechanism in over a half a century to recover from the red ink, or try to recover. That mechanism is increasing taxes and being quite creative in making new taxes. Even when the government is technically bankrupt, they only think of new taxes, and not reducing the work force tax burden.

Public Education is Another Government Run Business

The public education system is run by State Government with some help from the Federal Government. Decade after decade they have produced less and less quality students. Many students have not learned to read, and yet many of them graduate high school.

While English is the basic language to speak, read and comprehend, the public school system has adopted to teach foreigners in their own language. This doesn't help these students assimilate into the American way of life.

The problem with our education system is that it is not geared to getting a job, it is geared to the Greek and Roman idea of education.

We need education that can be applied to earning a living.

Colleges and Universities cost more than they will return back. Yes, I understand that certain university degrees are worth their weight in gold, but it is more of its network function than it educational value that gets the gold.

The three R's are poorly taught in the public education system. Reading appears to have the most difficulty, because then you have trouble with the other two r's.

Most companies retrain college graduates to their own way of doing business. An education that could have be delivered by the company directly from an internship to a high school graduate.

In the high tech world, formal education is at least five years behind industry.

My point is that education should not be confused with intelligence. Intelligence is the capability of being educated either formally or informally.

The reason that the prestigious schools have highly intelligent students is not from their education staff, but mainly because they filter their candidates at such a high level.

So the education system doesn't create intelligence it merely dispenses knowledge.

Sadly this knowledge may be of little to no value in attaining a well paying job once they leave school.
